There are five basic types of WonHwaDo in eight directions, and there are forty types in total. Not many in number compared to other common martial arts types.
When I stand looking forward, the offense and defense that goes in the direction of the right half is called "internal offense and defense", and the offense and defense that goes in the direction of the left half is called "outside offense and defense". The offense and defense in the front is "front offense and defense", and the offense and defense in the back is "backward offense and defense". Each has a name in eight directions. (See the figure above)
This basic pattern can be applied to practice immediately, but compared to the tension and speedy pattern that is practiced in Japan at the martial arts hall, the basics of WonHwaDo The technique requires a relaxed feeling and a soft movement of the circle.
This difference will be in line with the difference between the Japanese koto tone and the Korean
gayageum. However, even so, the world of "Ki" must be full of power, and Tanda must also be full of power. Feel this ki. It is said that the mystery of WonHwaDo is to go around Ki.

Gayageum

It is a traditional musical instrument that represents Korea, and is said to have been made in Gaya, which was scattered around the Nakdong River basin in the central and southern part of the Korean Peninsula from the 3rd century to the middle of the 6th century. Nowadays, it is popular as a traditional musical instrument representing Korea, but the strings are looser than the Japanese kin, and the sound is loose and not high-pitched. It was introduced to Japan during the Nara period.

To understand the musicality, culture, and spirituality of "traditional musical instruments", it is possible to know for the first time through encounters through the five senses.

It takes intellectual work of comparison to understand why it is such a basic attitude, what kind of technique it is, what the meaning of each behavior is, and its value. And we also need the sensibility to feel, and above all, we can get rid of ourselves through practice.

Martial arts can also be learned through the five senses, but it is more important to realize the difference between "culture and history" behind them. Also, there are various schools today, and further sect from them. Furthermore, when you look beyond the boundaries of a country, you will be even more shocked and culture shocked.

When learning WonHwaDo, relax your shoulders and release yourself from the tension. The mystery of WonHwaDo lies in "weakness". We must be able to regain and rule the original world of mind through weakness. It governs the mind and launches the power of the mind. It is not your will but your will that moves you.

Various countries in the world have their own beliefs, myths, and cultures, but many of them have "founding myths" and "Tenson Korin thought". The country was built by "Dangun" who descended as a heavenly grandfather to the Korean people, and the idea that each and every one of the people called Dangun as the ancestor of the country is called Dangun Haraboji (grandfather) and is rooted in the idea.

The Korean people describe the death of a person as "tracashotta (returned)". Our ancestors descend from heaven, and we, who inherited that lineage, return to heaven again when we finish our lives on earth. This way of thinking is the "idea of Yuan" .

Go back to where you were born. In Japanese, it is expressed as "back and forth", but in Korean, it is expressed as "Wattari Kattari (back and forth)". The heavenly grandson who came down from heaven in an arc draws an arc again and returns when the time comes.

In this myth, the birth of the heavenly grandson began with a round "egg". The universe is also round, and the shape of the heart is also round. Everything from maximum to minimum is "maru". In other words, the "idea of Yuan", which states that the center is heaven, is alive and rooted in the culture of life.

The action when a person prays to heaven is "비손 Pison (prayer)". The prayer of the ancient Koreans was to take the heavens as a sword, rub their palms together in a circle, and sway their bodies back and forth or left and right to pray.

In WonHwaDo, the first technique to be learned is "Rotating Offense and Defense," in which this "Pison" gradually grows. This rotation offense and defense consists of an upper rotation offense and defense from bottom to top and a lower rotation offense and defense from top to bottom.

Eastern Ye

Linguistically, Korean and Japanese are considered to be the same Altaic languages.

Words similar to Japanese in "Goguryeo place name" extend to the north of the central part of the Korean Peninsula and the north of the Yalu River, but these are considered to be Yemaek elements.

The activity of the Hama tribe has been confirmed since 1100 BC. As a marine and inland fisherman, Hamajin has a cross-border fishing hunter character who is also involved in the commercial activities of distribution and sales of processed marine products, while he co-exists in the same village as Koreans as a settled farmer.

As a marine and inland fisherman, Hamajin has a cross-border fishing hunter character who is also involved in the commercial activities of distribution and sales of processed marine products, while he co-exists in the same village as Koreans as a settled farmer.

Hamajin already had a high level of reading and writing ability in Chinese characters in Wei Jin dynasty (184-589), and the world's first modified Chinese character, "Nakahara Goguryeo Inscription," used Hamajin as an intermediary to transfer Chinese characters to the Korean Peninsula. It is considered to be the first example to be established.

It is thought that the Japanese-like syllable notation in "Goguryeo place name" due to the place name revision in 757 is based on Yemaek.

It is possible that there is some systematic relationship between Ye-Maek in the 6th and 8th centuries and ancient Japanese.

"Proto-language of Eastern Ye-Maek-Continental Ye-Maek-Yemaek in the 8th century disappeared around the 10th century"

"Proto-language of Eastern Ye-Archipelago-Japanese, Ryukyuan, Hachijo"

It is probable that Yemaek has been spoken with Korean since the 3rd century throughout the Korean Peninsula, including Gyeongsang and Jeolla. It is thought that the Yemaek sect was discontinued by the 6th century, and the Yemaek sect diverged at a time when it did not know it.

It is believed that the Ye-Maek tribe experienced grammatical altaiization on the Korean Peninsula due to the influence of Korean, while the “voice” of the Keisho dialect, Gangwon-do Samcheok, Gangneung, and Ning Yue dialects predominate on the Sea of Japan side. It is considered to be a "regional characteristic" due to the influence of the Korean dialect .

"Wai" and "Haku" in northeastern China in the 2nd century BC are the predecessors of the four races of Yemaek, Okjeo, Goguryeo, and Buyeo.

The current "Eastern Ye" in Gangwon-do, South Korea is said to be a descendant of the Eastern Ye in the northeastern part of China in the former Han dynasty. In the history book, there is a description that the origin of Buyeo seems to be Yemaek, and Yemaek is described as another name or another species of Goguryeo.

In "Goguryeo", it is stated that Hama, Okjeo, and Goguryeo were originally in the land of Korea (Mr. Mamoru).

The Hama tribe crossed the weak water river (Ari Taisui, now La Lin River) upstream of the Songhua River and headed south. The ancient castle of Keika before the founding of Buyeo was discovered, and "Hamajo" was also discovered.

Establishment and abolition of Canghai County

In the fall of the first year of Saku (128 BC), Xiongnu invaded Liaoxi-gun and killed the taishou, and also invaded Yuyang-gun and Yanmen-gun to defeat the duwei, and more than 3,000 people. Also killed.

In response, Han dispatched Shogun Wei Qing from Yanmen County and Shogun Lee Breath from Dai County to obtain 1,000 prisoners of war and head hunters. In this case, 280,000 people, including Nanryo, the monarch of Dongyi, fell to Han, so Canghai County was set up there.

Han abolished Canghai County in the spring of the 3rd year of Saku (126 BC).

Buyeo Country

Founding myth

There is the following description in the "Ryohei" Kichiken Hen.

"Once upon a time, there was a Takri Kingdom (Takri Koku, 고리국, Koriku) in Hokuto. The king had made a maid pregnant, so she tried to kill her. A spirit like that came down to me and I was pregnant. ”The king was deceived.

After that she gave birth to a boy. The king ordered him to leave it in the piggery, but he didn't die because the pigs breathed. The next time he moved to the stable, the horse also breathed. The king thought that it was the work of God, and he took it over to his mother and fed it, and named it Tomei.

For a long time, Tomei was skillful in riding a horse and shooting a bow, and was ferocious, so the king was afraid that Tomei would rob his country and tried to kill him again. Tomei fled the country, ran south to the water, and shot the surface of the river with a bow, and fish and soft-shelled turtles emerged and were able to ride, and Tomei was in Buyeo's land. He became a king. "

In "Weisho" and "Samguk Sagi", Jumong, the founder of Goguryeo, is also from Buyeo, and there is a story about the founding of Goguryeo by leading the people and escaping from Buyeo toward the southeast.

In "Samguk Yusa" and "Samguk Yusa", the sun god Hae Mo-su (also known as 해모수, Hemos, and Jumong's father) came down after King Buru of Buyeo (해부루 ・ Heburu) ruled. Therefore, it is said that Buru of Buyeo moved to the east and built another country (Eastern Buyeo).

Buyeo, Goguryeo, and Baekje's founding legends are in complete agreement in the composition of persecution and escape in the country where the ancestors of each country were born, and becoming king in a new land across the taiga. Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla are considered to be sibling nations that have divided blood starting from the same Buyeo.

Buyeo was destroyed by Mokkitsu in Taiwa 18 (494). Nakichi was a hunting people who lived in the Manchuria region from the north of Goguryeo during the Northern and Southern Dynasties of China, and is thought to have lived in the area from the present Matsuhana River to Changbai Mountain. It is a descendant of Sushen and Yilou, and the predecessor of Mohe in the Tang dynasty.

The roots of Hanaro-do are the senior system of Goguryeo

The Goddess Festival is an Olympic Games dedicated to heaven

Like sumo and karate, the history of martial arts, which is said to have originated in Japan, cannot be explained without the influence of Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla. Taekwondo, a martial art of South Korea and North Korea, was originally called Subak (수박), and was introduced to China as "Kenpo" and then to Okinawa as "Karate". be.

Although there is no established theory about the spread of sumo, it is thought that it came from the Korean Peninsula, judging from its similarity to "Ssireum 실름 (Korean sumo)". In addition, the polo (hockey on horseback) called "Dakyu  격구 Kyok" is also an old court sport, but it is said that it was also introduced from the Korean Peninsula during the unified Silla era. ..

It would be surprising that the roots of folk sports, which are considered to be Japan's "national sport," are in ancient Korea. However, 2,000 years ago, Goguryeo was already a popular sport and became an important physical cultural property. In Goguryeo, where the bones (identification) system was strict, a powerful samurai group was seen, but the samurai corps was appointed by the general public regardless of the identification system.

Goguryeo

Chumo the Holy King is the first king of Goguryeo (reigned: 37 BC-19 BC). According to "Tomei Seiouki", the surname is high and the 諱 is Jumong. It is that "Jumong" that became famous in Korean dramas before.

King Yuri of Goguryeo is the second king of Goguryeo (reigned 19 years ago-18 years later), and his name is Yuri (유익 ・ Yuri). The eldest son of the first Chumo the Holy King (Jumong). According to Samguk Sagi, Baekje Honki, his half-brother had three sons, Biryu and Onjo, the founder of Baekje.

Around the 2nd century, Taiso Tao (the great-grandson of Jumong) built a stronger country, and one of the reasons for this was the "senior (선배 Sombe)" centered on young people who were full of energy and courage. ) ”Was created to promote the strengthening and prosperity of the national system.

Every year in March and October, a festival called Shinsudan (신수단) gathers the masses and holds a festival competition. It was a prestigious tournament in the Goguryeo version of the Olympic Games. It is a sacred sports competition held under the gods, and the crowds gathered at the festival are held a competition of subak, sumo, archery, sword, one-legged jump, water battle, sword dance, song dance, and big hunting. As a result of various competitions, the winner was selected and appointed as a "senior" to form a samurai corps.

They were given a considerable amount of salary by the state and left the house to form a corps and live in a single house. He devoted himself to society and the nation by studying historical events, learning arts, exploring mountain waters, building castles, improving roads, and giving lectures for people. It was.

Among them, the best sexual intercourse, scholarship, and martial arts were selected and treated as masters. The master wore clothes made of soap (효백, a black kinu that was given as a ceremonial gift), and honored the senior master among the masters as the greatest compliment, the Great Brother. ..

When the war broke out, the big brother led all the seniors and organized a group himself to go to the battlefield, fighting for death on the battlefield, and was the bravest. In addition, since seniors have a strong armed background, they have a strong voice and almost monopolized important positions by seniors' bones (identification system). Seniors played the role of a combat unit and greatly contributed to the expansion of Goguryeo's national power.

Taixue, which was built in the 2nd year of King Shojurin (372), adopted martial arts as a required subject, so samurai became able to receive systematic integrated education in martial arts. At the same time, a private school called Hondo also conducted martial arts education based on Taixue, so the standard of martial arts became higher. By implementing such education, Goguryeo reigned as a powerful nation with a heroic name, and the senior group fully fulfilled its role.

The spirit of both Bunbu and Budo is clearly found in the "senior system," and you can imagine Goguryeo's noble and precise system management. I think it is somewhat reminiscent of "Bushido," which was later born in Japan.

The end of Goguryeo

Yeon Gaesomun (연개 소문, Yeon Gaesomun) (year of birth unknown-666) that appears in the blockbuster Korean wave historical drama "Dae Jo-yeong, Dae Jo-yeong, 대조영" is a grand chancellor at the end of Goguryeo. He was a general.

In this era, "seniors" grew into a powerful samurai corps that completely influenced national luck, and the seniors of "seniors" also seized the power of the nation. However, he did not become the king himself, although he also caused a revolution in which King Yeon Gaesomun abolished King Yeongnyu and made King Bojang the throne.

In 645 AD, the second Tang emperor Taizong (Lee Semin), who was trying to rule the whole of Asia, led a large army (300,000 people) and continued to invade the Korean Peninsula, Goguryeo. General Yang Manchun, the lord of Anichi Castle, led 5,000 soldiers to repel a large army of more than 200,000 in order to protect the country and the people of Goguryeo. The martial arts level of "seniors" at that time was quite high.

The group of seniors who were strong like this began to decline gradually with the passage of time, and in later generations, the role of brave and brave as a group of warriors gradually weakened, and loyalty and interest in the nation decreased, and academics also declined. It became sparse, its intellectual level dropped significantly, and the name of the proud senior was replaced by the Confucian.

There are numerous cases of collapse that almost always collapsed if the strength of the army was only the strength of the armed forces and the respect for martial arts was taken into consideration. Goguryeo used religious rituals as a place to find human resources to devote himself to the nation. This also shows that he was asking "seniors" for the importance of the spirit.

Eventually, Baekje adopted this "senior system" and Silla launched a similar "Hanaro-michi". This system, regardless of sneakyness, whose status was determined by pay-for performance, physical education skills, and academic ability, must have given great vitality and enthusiasm to the ancient Koreans. (Dae Jo-yeong, 대조영 later founded Balhae)

Sumo of other countries without barbarism

The festive competition at the Grand Festival of the Goddess (신수단, Shinsdan) has been handed down to this day, and it has changed its shape and is alive in people's lives. Sumo and Taekwondo are typical examples, and the secret of their popularity is that they are sports that are the heart of the people.

Okinawa sumo is thought to have been similar to "Ssireum". The theory that the origin of sumo is the match between Taima no Kehaya and Nomi no Sukune in the description of "Nihon Shoki" in Japan is a little unreasonable in terms of rules. No savagery can be found in the origin of sumo in any country, but Japanese sumo could not have been the only killing. Sumo may go back to the Goddess Festival. It is a well-known fact that rice, udon, bronze and ironware, Buddhist texts, Confucianism, and even the imperial family came from the Korean Peninsula.

In this century, where diversity is required, it will be necessary to consider and confirm scientific new discoveries from various perspectives at world conferences, etc., in the spirit of "warm old wisdom and newness" while deepening mutual understanding with the cultures of other countries. ..

And the intellect that opens up a new civilization in a new era, the big heart that can accept it, and the sincere practical ability for the truth inherit the spirit of the past martial arts people's "love heaven, mistress, patriotism" that appeared in those countries. And can be developed. The figure of a hero who is a pioneer in the realization of such world peace is a true martial arts person.

(Peace of the Korean Buddhist sect , July 1988 )

Spherical movement begins based on the movement of a vertical circle and a horizontal circle

The characteristic of WonHwaDo is that all the techniques are configured to draw a circle. With a vertical circle and a horizontal circle as the basic shape, the slope changes to finally draw a sphere.

The reason why it moves in a circular motion is that it can be sustained, eternal, and can be expanded in all directions. You can't do that with linear movements. The important conditions for that are the pattern (type), direction (angle), distance (magnitude), and speed.

Human behavior can be broadly divided into two types. It is a moving movement that goes and a movement that comes, a movement that sends and a movement that welcomes, a movement that pushes and a movement that pulls. In order to give this eternity, it becomes a circular motion.

When WonHwaDo's technique changes its circular movement, it can sometimes become a judo-like shape, an expression like taekwondo, or an aikido-like appearance.

Originally, I had no desire to start a new martial art. The ability of martial arts was no more than that of ordinary students.

However, a dozen years ago, we were able to show strange behavior through the spirit world. At that time, it was like some kind of dance to me, and I felt that this was a ghost phenomenon caused by lower spirits, so I was wary of it. "Isn't he being warned because he is moving in a different direction than God's wishes?" Feeling that, I fasted and prayed all night long.

But one day, when the phenomenon didn't stop and it had been going on for three years, I decided to actively fight the spirit and drive it away.

Then, when I first started fighting, I noticed that the movements that I had thought of as a spiritual phenomenon or dance were actually martial arts.

The practice method is mind training through the spirit world.

From there, I turned around and started organizing the molds. However, I didn't need much time to organize and practice.

That's because the practice method is very unique. First, when a new pattern is shown through the spirit world, another spiritual person, I, practices the pattern for that spirit. While looking at the scene from the side, I point out different points and correct them.

First, I implanted an accurate image of the mold in my head. For that reason, I was able to learn very smoothly by actually practicing with my body.

However, there were some drawbacks.

It is true that each type is relatively easy to follow, but it was difficult to understand what kind of meaning and continuity they have. However, as the practice progressed, it was a series of wonders when it became clear how much each one had applied power.

Guidance in three stages, from the prototype of WonHwaDo's technique to the philosophy

On the other hand, I can't forget the existence of a person who appeared in the illusion and gave me specific guidance. That person's guidance spanned three stages. At first, he taught me the technique that is the prototype of WonHwaDo. "Try this kind of action." I was ordered to evaluate my movements as "pass" and "fail", and when I brought the board, I was ordered to "kick" and said "OK". Keep me kicking from every position, direction and angle.

Next, I was taken to all martial arts dojos such as judo and taekwondo, where I was able to take a closer look at the training scene. There were many training methods and techniques that I had never seen before.

In the third stage, I was taken to a place like a library to read countless books on martial arts. It was a period of research to organize and systematize WonHwaDo ideologically.

Until then, I had been practicing only for personal training, but from around 1976, this martial art was used as WonHwaDo. I quit my previous job and started to concentrate on being a martial artist.
